This imagery shows northern Cebu Island after the typhoon went through. Before now we did not have any high resolution imagery at all for the northeast corner of this island. Please create the 'base map' in this portion of the island first, then move on to other work.

The base map means roads and then buildings. Since this is a post disaster image anyway, it makes sense to mark collapsed buildings, and heavily damaged buildings at the same time as you are mapping the other buildings.

The U.S. Department of State's Humanitarian Information Unit (HIU) made this post-disaster imagery from Digital Globe available through the NextView License.

Changeset Comment
When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".

[imagery url available only after accepting the license]

Access to this imagery is limited by the NextView license agreement.

You need to review and acknowledge the agreement.

Please map all of the roads in your tile first and then the buildings. You don't need to finish the tile all in one step so if you want to do roads and then upload and continue doing roads in other tiles that is good too. Roads are a higher priority than buildings (especially in the northeast of the island).

Please use the following source tag for any new objects created from this image (or put the source tag on the changeset tags).

source=WorldView-2, DigitalGlobe, NextView, 2013-11-13

Tag roads as normal, use the following tags for buildings:

Undamaged buildings:

  • building=yes
  • typhoon:reviewed=yes

Damaged buildings:

  • building=damaged

  • building=collapsed

Tip for using a specific rendering in JOSM

For those using JOSM, the Mappaint functionality gives the opportunity to use a mapcss stylesheet to color various objects. Hjart contributor provides a Collapsed/Damaged buildings Mapcss Style that is specific for editing for the typhoon. This is very useful when reviewing the building status. Every time a buildings is tagged with typhoon:reviewed=yes, it will be colored in green. This make it a lot easier to review all the buildings in a task, since all the buildings reviewed will be colored differently.

To use this style, you need to select it in the Prerences. To do so:

  • Select the Modify link in the Top menu, and then Preferences
  • In the list of button on the left panel, select the third button (ie. Grid over WorldMap) and select the Mappaint Tab
  • In the list of Styles available, Select Collapsed/ Damaged buildings and click Validate to terminate.

In the Editor window, among the right panels, you should see the Mappaint Tab where Collapsed / Damaged buildings Mappaint Style will be active. If you dont see the Mappaint Tab, you will have to select it from the list of available features in the left panel.
