The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the U.S. Government initiative to help save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. PEPFAR requests assistance to inventory buildings and roads for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs. This task focuses attention on Mbeya, Tanzania. Understanding where communities are located and how they are connected by roads is essential to understanding whether HIV/AIDS services are in the right place. The data that emerge from this mapping task will support our understanding of program coverage, the optimization of supply chain logistics, and the analysis of clinical site-level data.
PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS TAB FOR DETAILS: Prioritize roads for completing the task, map buildings if you feel confident in your mapping and the amount of time needed.

Please trace all roads and buildings

Roads are fairly well-mapped in Mbeya. If you identify unmapped roads and smaller paths, please map them as far as you can follow. Tag roads according to the typology described in this OpenStreetMap Wiki: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Highway_Tag_Africa. In addition, mark whether the road surface is paved or unpaved. For more information, please visit: http://learnosm.org/en/coordination/remote-tracing/#roads
Mbeya CC West is densely populated. For this task it is not necessary to map every building. Prioritize buildings that that may have special local significance (e.g. larger structures that could be a school or medical facility). Please label all buildings as general buildings. We will seek additional community engagement and add detailed local knowledge to the map after we complete the task. Square the corners of all buildings by pressing “S” on your keyboard after labeling the building.
