MSF has started a nutritional programme in the southern part of Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria). More than one million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been identified in Maiduguri alone, doubling the host population. Where MSF is providing care alone, there are approximately 227 000 IDPs. They are difficult to identify and reach. MSF targets the dense areas (more buildings = more population) as people there are more vulnerable to malnutrition and transmittable diseases. As MSFis new to the area, a more detailed map would allow surveillance teams to advance faster in order to facilitate food distribution.
The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.

- #MissingMaps Maiduguri, Nigeria #hotosm-project-2488 Adding #buildings and #localroads When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".
Please click on a square to start mapping. There is custom imagery provided for this project, which should automatically appear in iD or JOSM.
Feel free to split the tasks if they are too big!
Simply digitise the outline of all buildings in each square and make sure you either SQUARE (shortcut key = 'S' in iD editor & 'Q' in JOSM) the corners of square/rectangular buildings OR ROUND OFF/CIRCLE (shortcut key = 'O' in iD editor) any huts.
Tag all buildings as building=building (in iD) or building=yes (in JOSM).
The residential roads may need adding. Please trace the roads and make sure you join them up to the existing network (i.e. they share a node).
Tag all residential roads as Road Features / Residential Road in iD or highway=residential in JOSM.
Please do not delete any other data from this area if you do not know what it is.
