- Author: Missing Maps
- Requesting organization: PADF
This is the first of several mapping tasks that PADF will be leading in Mixco.
PADF is working in the municipality of Mixco, Guatemala, to train, equip, and organize neighborhood-based disaster preparation and response initiatives, as well as implement small-scale disaster resilient infrastructure improvement projects based on community-driven vulnerability risk and needs assessments. This mapping initiative will create open-geospatial data to support this effort.
The project will focus primarily on informal settlements vulnerable to landslides and flooding. These are communities that typically possess inadequate drainage systems and contention walls, poorly built homes using sub-standard materials, and are built on unsafe hillsides. Under this project, PADF will bring together stakeholders from informal hillside settlements that are vulnerable to floods and landslides, along with universities, public sector coordinators for disaster preparedness and response, and private sector actors, in order to encourage climate change adaptation, mitigate disaster risk vulnerability, and increase community resilience. PADF will convene local stakeholders through discussion forums to facilitate the exchange of experiences, participate in decision-making, and gain access to information to reduce their vulnerability to disasters.
The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.

The project will focus on informal settlements vulnerable to landslides and flooding. Please capture building footprints, roads, paths, and any visible water features.
Please use Bing imagery for this task
Tag buildings as
Most roads (
highway=residential) are already complete in this area, however there may still be some paths that need to be traced. Please use
highway=path in these instances
