The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the U.S. Government initiative to help save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. PEPFAR requests assistance to inventory buildings and roads for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs. In Kenya, HIV prevalence is highest in the areas that border Lake Victoria, where HIV prevalence can approach or exceed 20% of the general population. This task focuses attention on a county that borders the lake: Homa Bay. Understanding where communities are located and how they are connected by roads is essential to understanding whether HIV/AIDS services are in the right place. The data that emerge from this mapping task will support our understanding of program coverage, the optimization of supply chain logistics, and the analysis of clinical site-level data.

When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".

Please trace all roads and buildings. For useful tips on mapping roads and buildings, please review this guide: https://gist.github.com/NateHeard/e1645ab8831a316b1932d173260086ba

Prioritize roads: Map roads and smaller paths as far as you can follow them. Tag roads according to the typology described in this OpenStreetMap Wiki: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Highway_Tag_Africa. For more information, please visit: http://learnosm.org/en/coordination/remote-tracing/#roads

Buildings: Please label all buildings as general buildings. We will seek additional community engagement and add detailed local knowledge to the map after we complete the task. Square the corners of all buildings by pressing “S” on your keyboard after labeling the building.
