The American Red Cross is supporting the Haitian Red Cross to extend health services delivery and improve health outcomes by providing the population with equitable access to primary health services. One key element of this strategy is to increase the availability of professional health resources by training and deploying 10,000 "Agents de Santé Communautaires Polyvalents" (ASCP). The Haitian Red Cross seeks to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the services expected of this initiative and to build health resilience capacity at the community levels by leveraging its country-wide network of volunteers.
Updated maps will support the Haitian Red Cross to identify current health related infrastructure as well as to prepare the mobilization of volunteers and ASCPs during community outreach. Furthermore, updated maps will help Haitian Red Cross to identify particularly vulnerable families and plan ways to improve access to health services for them.
The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.
