Likasi has been partially mapped through another HOT project, but to conduct effective epidemiology, building level data is needed, and a lot of neighbourhoods in Likasi are lacking in this area. Please help us complete the tracing of buildings and residential roads, so that the data can be used by MSF teams when disease outbreaks occur.

The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.

When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".

Please click on a square to start mapping.

Use Bing imagery for this project.

For buildings: Simply digitise the outline of all buildings in each square and make sure you either SQUARE (shortcut key = 'S' in iD editor) the corners of square/rectangular buildings OR ROUND OFF/CIRCLE (shortcut key = 'O' in iD editor) any huts.

Then tag as building=building (in iD) or building=yes (in JOSM). There is a good video on how to map buildings, here if you are new to editing OSM.

If you see a building that looks like it is incomplete (roof missing for example), please still tag it as a building.

For residential roads:

Digitise the roads as lines (make sure they join correctly to neighboring roads) and tag them as road=residential road (in iD) or highway=residential (in JOSM)

Please do not delete any other data from this area if you do not know what it is.
