This is a task to map the roads, buildings, rivers and residential areas in the predicted coastal landfall area for Hurricane Patricia. The purpose of the task is to:

  • Quickly build out a complete road network for the area so that aid can be delivered quickly in the aftermath of the hurricane

  • Create buildings that can be used to pinpoint where to deliver assistance in the relief phase and assess damages to homes during the later recovery

  • Show where major populations centers are for general humanitarian planning purposes

When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".

  • Map all the buildings, roads, and residential "landuses" you encounter

  • Use Digital Globe imagery (link above) to trace features. To use the Digital Globe imagery add it to your JOSM or iD editor; if unsure how in JOSM follow this guide. Use the built-in Bing and Mapbox imagery to double check tricky features.

  • Please work in high priority areas first and lower priorities areas second. We have prioritized known population centers in this task.

  • You will likely need to split the tiles for urban areas.

  • The general OSM Map Features wiki is here

  • The Mexico OSM WikiProject is here (in Spanish)

  • If you would like to ask questions please contact the HOT OSM listserv. The Activation leads and many fellow contributors are subscribed to it and will try to answer your questions as best they can.

If you are a new HOT contributor:

Please skip any features that make you uncomfortable and note them in the comments seciton of your tile. More experienced contributors will check your area and feed back to you the correct action.

Do not map anything you're not sure about! When in doubt it's better to be incomplete than wrong.
