This job aims at updating and improving the map of Bangui, thanks to a March 24, 2014 WorldView-1 imagery provided by the MapGive project. The mapping encompasses improving the existing data and providing a date to the structures so that the urban growth can be monitored in the future. Other jobs will follow when this one is done in order to complete the whole agglomeration.

As it deals with imagery date and potentially, improving the existing data, it fits more with experienced contributors using JOSM.

Bangui had been mapped late 2012-early 2013 with a Bing imagery dated 2011. It has been updated with an imagery dated February 28, 2013 on the west side of the city, and dated October 29, 2012 on the eastern side. The Mapgive project also kindly provided a WorldView1 imagery dated February March 25, 2014.

  1. First pick up your task and load the data and the WorldView1 imagery. Add also the Bing imagery

  2. Correct the slight imagery offset of the WorldView1 imagery compared to the Bing imagery, that will be considered as the reference, both because Bing is the default layer for the mappers who may contribute without using this TM project + it is generally really well georeferenced, as checked with the GPS tracks over Bangui. This video shows how to do the offset.

  3. Clean the existing data over Bing Imagery, that is a bit offset. This video shows how to do it.

  4. Work on a small area of the task Use the two sets of imagery to update the data by adding missing buildings, delete those who vanished since 2011, or were not precisely traced enough, When a building exists in the two sets of imagery, please use the Bing imagery to edit the geometry, because of its better resolution and georeferencing. Add source=Bing + WorldView1 and source:date=2014-03-25 to the building. This video shows how to do it.

  5. Repeat step 4 over a new small area.
