Government as well as citizens are leading initiatives provide rescue and mostly relief support in affected communities. This task is an effort to help those effort by mapping those areas so that the operation can be more effective and efficient.

#3588 Ngoma Floods - Western Uganda

As heavy rains continue to pound various parts of the country; three premature babies have died at Kisiizi Hospital, in Rukungiri District, due to a power blackout that was caused by flooding. Dr Francis Banya, a gynaecologist at the hospital said they are facing a shortage of water since all water pipes that supply the hospital have been damaged by the floods. “At the moment, the hospital has no water. It’s so difficult to run a hospital without water,” Dr Banya said.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for the Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers in a context of emergency. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).

Alternatively check out the MapGive website which also provides information on the Tasking Manager and mapping.
