The annual monsoon in India covered the country nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. Thousands are reported stranded in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

June 22, more then a thousand dead are reported and many still missing. For more details see Wikipedia.

Harsil area is reported as one of the most affected area along the Ganga and this job is to map the urban areas.

Dans le cadre du projet EUROSHA (EURopean Open-Source Humanitarian Aid), un groupe de 7 volontaires européens et africains déployés au Burundi cartographie activement le pays pendant 6 mois de la mi-octobre 2012 à avril 2013. Hébergés par France Volontaires International (FVI), ils vont répondre à des besoins de données géographiques communs aux acteurs humanitaires, gouvernementaux et du développement.

As part of the EUROSHA project, 7 European and Burundi's volunteers are active mapping using OSM in Burundi for 6 months between October, 2012 and April, 2013. Hosted by France Volontaires International they will answer geographical needs common to humanitarian, development and government actors.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for the Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers in a context of emergency. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).


New to Mapping?

Just jump over to OpenStreetMap, create an account, and then visit the LearnOSM tutorials on the Tasking Manager and the iD editor. Alternatively check out the MapGive website which also provides information on the Tasking Manager and mapping. Once you have read up on how to map, come back here to help map for people on the ground!
