Seleka rebels invaded Central African Republic in December 2012 and took down Bangui in March 2013. The situation has continued to get worse and increasing violence due to attacks on civilians from Seleka's mainly Muslim fighters and Christian militias called "anti-balaka", meaning 'anti-machete'.

This job is to map Paoua, one sub-prefecture that hosts the main airport and most humanitarian responders in Ouham-Pendé (consult this recent WhoWhatWhere map from OCHA)

Les rebelles de la Seleka ont envahi la République Centrafricaine en décembre 2012 puis ont pris Bangui en mars 2013. La situation n'a cessé depuis lors d'empirer avec des violences perpétrées par les soldats essentiellement musulmans de la Seleka et les milices chrétiennes dites "anti-balaka".

Cette tâche a pour objectif de cartographier la ville de Paoua, sous-préfecture qui abrite le principal aéroports la la plupart des organisations humanitaires en Ouham-Pendé (pour plus d'info consulter cette carte Qui, Quoi, Où de OCHA).

The International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies and the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society will be carrying out a joint urban assessment in the Dzivarasekwa neighborhood of Harare. This will be used to plan programs in the area for the next few years.

Please trace the central squares first and then trace the periphery. The central area is the area of focus for the program and hence most important to our needs; everything surrounding provides context and additional insights into the operation of the neighborhood.

Through the MapGive project, the Humanitarian Information Unit (HIU) of the U.S. Department of State is providing the OpenStreetMap community access to updated satellite imagery services to help assist with humanitarian mapping.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for the Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers in a context of emergency. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).

Just jump over to OpenStreetMap, create an account, and then visit the LearnOSM tutorials on the Tasking Manager and the iD editor. Alternatively check out the MapGive website which also provides information on the Tasking Manager and mapping.
