#2520 Missing Maps: Aweil, South Sudan (part 2a - residential areas and buildings)

  • Author: Missing Maps
  • Requesting Organization: MSF

This task is great for beginners. The data are prepared by MapSwipe, and the buildings are clearly visible on the imagery. Enjoy the mapping and help our teams!

Aweil, the capital of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, is home to tens of thousands of people, many of whom live on the city’s largely unmapped outskirts. Putting these settlements on the map is the first step to collecting crucial health and demographic data that will help MSF provide essential medical care to this underserved population. Mapping the Aweil region will allow MSF to conduct surveys to learn where patients live, where medical needs are most acute, and where seasonal peaks in illnesses like malaria and malnutrition are likely to occur.

#2728 Zambia - Peace Corps Public Health Program

This mapping project is to understand the layout of the community and assist in the upcoming mass distribution of mosquito nets in Zambia. This would also serve as a resource in visually understanding contributing factors to outbreaks of diarrheal diseases and high malaria cases. Once created, this map will serve as a basemap for the region and aid the Peace Corps Public Health program in Zambia.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for the Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers in a context of emergency. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).

New to Mapping?

Just jump over to OpenStreetMap, create an account, and then visit the LearnOSM tutorials on the Tasking Manager and the iD editor. Alternatively check out the MapGive website which also provides information on the Tasking Manager and mapping. Once you have read up on how to map, come back here to help map for people on the ground!
