#3389 Tanzania Development Trust: Manyoni district mapping project part 2

  • Author: HOT
  • Requesting Organization: Tanzania Development Trust
  • Priority: Medium

Manyoni district in eastern Tanzania has a high incidence of Female Genital Mutilation, early marriage and Gender Based Violence. NGOs on the ground need better road and residential area data to facilitate their outreach work.

The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.

#3552 Missing Maps: Malaria mapping for Angola - Mucusso

The MENTOR Initiative as part of an Elimination 8 consortium is working to build a footprint map in Southern Angola to aid upcoming malaria field work later in 2017. This work is part of a final push undertaken in partnership with the National malaria control programmes in Namibia and southern Angola to end malaria. Your contribution is critical. By mapping buildings, roads, homes, water bodies and key landmarks, you will help to improve operational efficiencies for this malaria program, allowing for better targeting of limited resources, and accelerating progress on the path to malaria elimination. MENTOR, in conjunction with its partners, works towards reducing deaths and suffering from tropical diseases in many locations around the world.

#3453 Arua District Part 1

Author: Missing Maps / HOT Uganda Requesting organization: HOT Uganda Priority: Medium * Imagery: Digital Globe

An escalation of violence in South Sudan since July 2016 has lead to a large population movement into the north of neighboring Uganda. An estimated rate of between 2,000 and 3,000 displaced persons cross the border into Uganda each day. In a rapidly developing situation such as this, it is vital that accurate and up-to-date mapping information is available to allow the ERU to respond more effectively and efficiently.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for the Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers in a context of emergency. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).

New to Mapping?

Just jump over to OpenStreetMap, create an account, and then visit the LearnOSM tutorials on the Tasking Manager and the iD editor. Alternatively check out the MapGive website which also provides information on the Tasking Manager and mapping. Once you have read up on how to map, come back here to help map for people on the ground!
