#1789 Missing Maps: West Swaziland - Malaria Elimination Programme - Ninth Project for West Swaziland

The southern African Kingdom of Swaziland is leading the way in the global fight against malaria and is on the verge of making history by eliminating malaria from its borders by the end of 2016 according to the Kingdom of Swaziland National Malaria Control Programme. If the country achieves malaria elimination, it will be the first country in southern Africa to achieve zero local cases.

New Project The requesting organization has asked that we continue our mapping and include the rest of Swaziland.

Please be a part of this amazing effort at eliminating malaria in Swaziland in 2016 and map in some buildings!

Great for new mappers - Buildings only - Very easy but important mapping

The Missing Maps project aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.

#1673 Missing Maps: Binga, Zimbabwe

  • Author: Missing Maps
  • Requesting Org: American and Zimbabwe Red Cross
  • Priority: Medium

Please follow instructions regarding mapping roads in this task.

Annual flooding and recurring drought have devastating impacts on communities in Southern Africa. In the Zambezi River basin, seasonal weather patterns often result in crop failure, shelter damage, livestock death, soil erosion and increased water and sanitation issues. Since late 2011, the American Red Cross has been working with communities in Binga district, Zimbabwe to identify and mitigate common hazards, as well as implement small-scale resilience projects such as latrine construction to improve household hygiene and building fuel-efficient cookstoves to reduce environmental degradation. At the same time, the American Red Cross is strengthening the capacity of the Zimbabwe Red Cross through trainings and community contingency planning support.

About the Tasking Manager

OSM Tasking Manager is a mapping tool designed and built for the Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. The purpose of the tool is to divide up a mapping job into smaller tasks that can be completed rapidly. It shows which areas need to be mapped and which areas need the mapping validated.

This approach facilitates the distribution of tasks to the various mappers in a context of emergency. It also permits control of the progress and the homogeneity of the work done (e.g. elements to cover, specific tags to use, etc.).

New to Mapping?

Just jump over to OpenStreetMap, create an account, and then visit the LearnOSM tutorials on the Tasking Manager and the iD editor. Alternatively check out the MapGive website which also provides information on the Tasking Manager and mapping. Once you have read up on how to map, come back here to help map for people on the ground!
